The Persian Heritage Foundation (PHF) and the Association for the Study of Persianate Societies (ASPS) announce the PHF-ASPS Book Award in the history of art and architecture in Iran and the Persianate world. This biannual award is presented to the author of a distinguished monograph in the history of art and architecture published in English between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2024. The committee will consider rigorous single-authored academic works within the discipline of art history and its closely allied fields (cultural, material, and visual studies, design, and archeology). In exceptional cases, Persian language monographs might be considered at the committee’s discretion. Edited collections, exhibition catalogs, and creative/non-academic works will not be considered. Nominations and self-nominations emails should include the author, book title, description, and publisher’s contact to PHF-ASPS Book Award chair, Talinn Grigor (tgrigor@ucdavis.edu) by February 1, 2025. Shortlisted nominees will be contacted to provide copies of the book to the committee members by April 1, 2025: Talinn Grigor (chair), Professor of Art History, University of California, Davis; Sussan Babaie, Professor of Islamic and Iranian Arts, The Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London; and Tomoko Masuya, Professor of Islamic Art History, University of Tokyo. The first award will be announced at the ASPS convention in August 2025 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
