We are very excited about the forthcoming Tenth Biennial Congress of the Association in Tashkent. Founded almost 2500 years ago, Tashkent sat on the frontiers between the Persianate and Turkic worlds and was an important point of contact and exchange between the two since antiquity. Today it is the most populous city in Central Asia and the fourth largest in the former Soviet Union. Tashkent’s history and cultural heritage offers many opportunities for visitors, as does its location as the gateway to destinations across Uzbekistan and Central Asia. We are excited to welcome congress participants to Uzbekistan for the first time in the ASPS’s history.

We look forward to an engaging tenth convention in Tashkent. Past conventions of ASPS have been held in Dushanbe/Tajikistan (2002); Yerevan/Armenia (2004); Tbilisi/Georgia (2007), Lahore/ Pakistan (2009), Hyderabad/India (2012); Sarajevo/Bosnia and Herzegovina (2013); Istanbul/Turkey (2015), Tbilisi/Georgia (2018), and Yerevan/Armenia (2023). We invite you to review our past programs. The ASPS Congresses have provided a rare and valued opportunity for scholars from across Asia, Europe and North America to participate in an interdisciplinary dialogue. The interchange of ideas has also found its place in our publication, the Journal of Persianate Societies, published by Brill Academic Publishers. We encourage scholars from all backgrounds to take the opportunity to participate in what promises to be a unique gathering.
