Announcing the 2027 ASPS/JPS Early Career Prize

The Association for the Study of Persianate Societies invites submissions for its biennial Early Career Prize, which recognises outstanding scholarship on the broader Persianate world by ASPS members in the early stages of their careers. The winning paper will be published in the Journal of Persianate Studies and its author will receive a cash prize of $250. The deadline for submissions of original, unpublished work is 31 May 2027.

Papers will be judged on creativity of topic and source materials, originality of analysis, and overall scholarly contribution. The winner, selected by an ASPS prize committee, will be announced at the upcoming ASPS conference in Dushanbe in August 2027. Runners-up may also be considered for publication.

The Journal of Persianate Studies, the peer-reviewed journal of the Association for the Study of Persianate Societies, publishes articles on the culture and civilisation of the geographical area where Persian has historically been the dominant language or a major cultural force, encompassing Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan, as well as the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and parts of the former Ottoman Empire.

Eligibility: Non-tenured scholars who, at the time of submission, are members of ASPS and have received their doctorate within the past seven years.

Application procedure: Submissions must be original, previously unpublished, and within the scope of JPS. They must follow the journal’s style, transliteration, and citation guidelines: https://brill.com/fileasset/downloads_products/Author_Instructions/JPS.pdf. Submit papers online through Editorial Manager (https://www.editorialmanager.com/JPSBRILL), selecting ‘Early Career Prize’ as the article type. By submitting, applicants confirm their intent to compete for the prize and agree, if selected, to the publication of their paper in JPS, subject to any revisions required by the editorial office.
